Art, Level II is definitely more valuable for daytrading than for position trading. It is also a tool that can hurt you if used incorrectly, and is also counter intuitive. Do you have a day job? If you do, and can't take two or three months (full time during trading hours) to learn the pitfalls of L2 then I'd say skip it. Another variable to consider is the size of your account. If you have 100k then you'll be giving up a little better than 3% per year. If you're expecting 50% or better per year, it's probably inconsequential over that amount.

So the answer is a firm 'it depends'.
