AMD Chips Knock Intel From Top Spot Notably, the average selling price of a PC fell to $953 in January, a 6 percent decline from December, said PC Data, which is based in Reston, Va. dailynews.yahoo.com The continuing decrease in PC ASPs bodes very very badly for the box makers, particularly the ones that are more closely tied to Intel, and don't sell a lot of product with AMD. The fact is that as AMD gains market share, their processors become the standard to which Intel's must be measured instead of vice-versa. This is a major milestone in the long-term collapse of PC pricing. What we have seen so far is only the beginning. Within 5 years I expect to see AMD (or very cheap Intel) chips take over in the server market, as well as the low end. -- Carl
