Hi John:Intel, in late January, said that sales for January had "exceeded their expectations"..

OK! Now there's some positive evidence - positive for Intel. Intel has an excellent reputation for being straight and conservative when dealing with analysts.

I'm sure I'm over-simplifying, but if AMD is gaining share (at least at the moment) from Intel on the low end and Intel sales are exceeding expectations does that mean that (a) computer sales must be out of this world or (b) Intel is selling A LOT of higher end chips? If the answer is "a," then why did CPQ have a lousy January and early February? If it's "b," does that mean that since CPQ's "first 6 weeks" were soft, they now have a stuffed channel full of Pentium IIs? But then, if that were the case, why would CPQ employees be pushing the "wait for the III" scenario with customers? Could that be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand's doing?? What happened to all of the sales at the end of December that rudedog heard were being pushed into Q1?

These are questions I wouldn't mind having answers to.
