if you do that, you lock in a loss since any appreciation over 7.5 between now and october has been sold.

in addition you're risk on the downside has only been reduced by the amount of the premium.

better to buy the put or just sit with the stock if you believe in this company. then you still have unlimited upside except for the cost of a put if you want downside protection.
