[strategic plans etc]

hi omer,

nice to hear from you... dspg seems like they've got some ambitious strategic plans .... and are now in execution mode... still seems like they may be missing a piece of the puzzle tho ... guess i'm still expecting they'll be putting some more of that cash to work... a friend recently passed along an interesting 14 feb nicky blackburn article about butterfly (recently acquired by txn) from the jerusalem post which points out that ex dspg management (Gidi Barak) played a part (ceo) in that one... am guessing that dspg has been eying that same market for a while ...

thanks for pointing out the distinction between audiocode's ic emphasis (gateways and central units) and dspg's (terminals)... had noticed the audiocode/voclf connection ... and it will be interesting to watch what happens with strategic relationships with voclf... would not be surprised some form of ripple effect back thru audiocodes maybe as far as dspg (?)

the more i read about the home wireless market, the more it seems like a real opportunity for some of dspg's expertise... tho competition is gonna be fierce

fwiw...don't believe that fujitsu is paying royalties yet to dspg (at least for adsl), tho lsi/orctf no doubt is ...

as i understand it, the current orctf adsl silicon shipping, is orctf/lsi with a dspg oak core... this will be gradually phased out by q4 when the fujitsu silicon with dspg oak core will be shipping in volume... would think dspg does ok in either case... tho the real upside will be in the increased volume by q4 (maybe a quarter lag for dspg royalties?)...

another angle to watch is fujitsu's success in selling this silicon to other venders... last orctf cc, tamir mentioned that by q4 this is expected...

back to amd/dspg: i also was expecting someone else... nsm etc, tho think amd is a pleasant surprise... ;) ... guess my thinking about a potential continued relationship between amd and dspg is based on the perceived success of the technology... if, as you mention, they have been working "together for some time".. and it looks like they've got a winner, am wondering why amd wouldn't be interested in some sort of continuing relationship? silicon? tho there are no doubt so many variables which when factored in would think it could play out many ways...

on the orctf front...

thanks for the heads up on france telecom... believe that tender has been pending for some time... agree with you about the politics involved... have felt for some time that ala was gonna be in the driver's seat, but as you pointed out- if orctf can get their foot in the door ... that would be a big deal.. and believe they have a shot due to orctf's history with ft adsl trials, and their hdsl relationship... also have recently been thinking that it would make sense for ala/fujitsu/(orctf) to be working together (tho unannounced) on interoperability (to protect market positioning), tho have no supporting info other than orctf's comments that they are working with unnamed companies... also would think that ft might like a couple of suppliers... especially if interoperability is in the offing...

any thoughts on who might be the orctf ft partner? would think most likely fujitsu tho lu would seem to be another possibility...

regards
