They sold those K5's at an average price under $60, which can't be too far from cost. Cyrix was selling their P166+ chips at $156, and had an ASP twice as high. If AMD wants to give them away, they can undoubtedly sell tons of K6's, too. But at some point most shareholders expect them to make a profit.

I agree that the M2/K6 comparison should be interesting. AMD will improve their speed with the K6, and Cyrix will improve their compatibility, and upgrade their speed with the M2.
