MOLLYSUE, I have found it hard to find much information about Gemstar other than their press releases. I bought into them with the hopes of a short term profit. I had hoped that their merger with StarSight Telecast would cause their stock to go up once the merger was finalized. Wrong!

Their earnings should be released soon, but again I can't find the date. Even my broker can't find the release date for their next financial reports. I haven't found their internet sight and I suspect that they don't have one.

The stock has been cycling between 16 and 18 for the last couple of months so there could be profits to be made if a person can time their buy/sell corectly. I'll sell the next time it goes above 18 which I don't feel will be too long and break even after brokerage fees. I think it will go up nicely in the long term but I have already committed my long term money to other stocks so gmstf has to go.

The things that I don't like about this stock have nothing to do with their product or market position. I've already mentioned that they are hard to research. My other problem is that they are not traded very heavily, even when the stock prices are going up and the company seems to be on a role. I prefer to own stocks that move with higher volumes. With these low volumes, the market makers keep the spread between the bid/ask prices pretty wide which tends to make my odds of making money slimmer.
