Eric,
I would be very surprised to find the quotes minutes behind. But you are right delayed quotes do us absolutely no good.
I was doing a trade on one of the fast moving IPOs, and I was trying to time it to the exact moment to sell since I had not bought it at a very good price. I can only attest to this particular trade but the quotes were exactly on...made the perfect exit...and saved my butt. <g> Would not have been able to do that without on the spot quotes.
I agree they are not always up to the second. I understand that the data is feed from the source, through cyber and to us. Do our phone lines make a direct line to our computers? I won't blame cyber for the data slowdown once it leaves their servers, but I will blame them for software glitches, stuck data, or delays from them. Are they perfect? No and if anyone finds me the perfect broker, online, please let me know.
I am a Schwab 500 member, now Signature Service, and I waited longer to get a broker on the phone then I waited for Cyber. Online trading has its disadvantages and I have been burned more then once by something going wrong.
Quick and easy way to check quotes? Some of the traders on the chat line were doing a ping to gauge time. Come on the cyber chat line when you get a chance and you can ask the other traders or the cyber monitor if you want.
Good trading,
