I could be good or bad news; who knows. I figure that it can drop off only so far. Since it is just gambling before the conference call; I'll hold off, but if it plunges and depending on the reason; it could be a great buying opportunity after the conference call selldown if it is a selldown. Might open up an opportunity in a side play like MXTR if they all go down on the call. I still think WDC is probably a good play and if it hits close to the 52 week low; I probably will pick some up. Just lately I'm starting to see WD drives that look as good as the Maxtor models. I was buying Maxtor exclusively for a while; before that WD, but WD just wasn't as good as Maxtor last year. The best drive I've bought in '98 was at the end of the year; a Seagate 7200 rpm 10 gig drive. I think MXTR also has some 7200 rpm models. I prefer these over anything slow. Noticable difference in performance. I believe I saw a WD with 66 meg/sec. throughput and I was wondering if that was a typo or have this doubled the UDMA throughput? Is there a UDMA 2 coming? Like I say; I thought it might be a typo. If not; this is a welcome development. I record multi-track sound on my HD and need all the bandwidth I can get. The Pentium 3 chip looks interesting, but I need to see if they have 133 mhz. motherboards out and if and when Direct Rambus is coming out. Pentium 3 just from a chip standpoint is not enough. The bottlenecks have always been in what is around the chip and so I wait for all that to be upgraded and then for the prices to drop to a bargin rate. I figure that we are a good 1 1/2 year away from the Pentium 3 to really be the new platform. Then software will be another 1 1/2 year later so 3 years before this is really worth upgrading to. I'll probably pass on all of it. I'm waiting for NT 5 which is called something else like NT 2000 or NT Millenium; something like that. I am waiting for NT to be compatible with FAT 32 among other things.
