Actually, I hope it doesn't "take care of" Marketeer. I'm very interested in reasons why 3dfx is not a good investment. I just want something other than "the specs aren't good enough" without saying what specs or what else the opinion is based on.

I also wonder about people who just dismiss STB and say the chip was the only deciding factor. Big OEM's like Dell and Gateway have fine-tuned their supply chain to the point where they get paid before they pay their suppliers. They have worked long and hard with STB and ATI to set-up JIT inventory systems. I think that the V3 chip will be more than good enough to get onto some major OEMs.

I've also been thinking of John Carmack's worry about 3dfx hitting the higher clock speeds. Since they have been working on the same core for a while and since they have recently been using very good chip building tools, I would guess that they have the best chance. They have had time to optimize for heat and speed while their competition is trying to add features at the same time.
