I think CPQ management has been more open than the past. In the past, they would have never mentioned that January and February were not meeting forcasts. I bet the first two months of every quarter never meet forcasts. The last month of every quarter is always big. Combine this with the release of a new processor, PIII and it only exacerbates the problem. The only real question is when will growth really slow down. If growth goes to zero, Intel is the one that will really feel it. CPQ and the other brand names will lower prices and steal more market share from the white boxes. Their margins will shrink, but they will survive. CPQ is already preparing for this time by putting more money into services, storage, and the Internet. The only company I see really competing with CPQ in the long run is IBM. Just my opinion.
