Hi Chuzz..

Good points...as always about Gateway, and the potential competitive threat...

Don't know if you noticed, but Gateway's market cap has bounced up to 11 1/2B....even with the hit computer stocks have taken in the past few weeks...

It is not unreasonable to think that Gateway could have a market cap of over 15B...and even 20 Billion by the end of the year...

I think this would rule out Compaq, no? They shot their wad on Dec...

Hewlett-Packard, it looks like to me, has not been very acquisitive in its history..and culturally, that could be a wierd fit, indeed...

IBM would seem to be the most likely acquirer...but is that the best way for them to use 15-20B? Jeez, it seems like some sort of alliance with Dell would produce better ROI, but...not everyone thinks like Dell in these matter (alliances vs. making/buying)

After this calender year, Gateway will probably be too expensive for an acquisition to make sense anymore, no?

I don't see anyone making a run at Micron..they just don't seem to be very good at what they do....
