Boy, that's the TOUGH one, Charlie. Long ago, much longer than I care to recall, I was a boy and read Aldous Huxley's book, Brave New World. In it, he forecast something he called the "feelies." What he described was a visual and sensory experience bordering on and beyond the virtual reality we hear of today. Huxley, being a Brit, was either secretly or overtly sexual, and his "feelies" pertained to an all-encompassing experience. To answer your question, I don't know how they are going to do it, and it most likely won't be someone like Bill Gates, but whoever develops THE FEELIES is going to make a ton of money. Put that active imagination and sense of realism to work, and figure out which enterprising and innovative company will win the prize. President Clinton has already laid the groundwork, so our culture is primed and receptive. When you find the solution, please clue me in before the IPO rises out of sight!
To get a bit stolid and boring, Earth's electronic technological explosion has really just gotten underway. Unimaginable numbers of computers, high-definition TVs, and other widgets are yet to be manufactured and sold in the next thirty years. I'm just not sure any single company will enjoy a monopoly position on them and make a financial killing. Try Ted Turner, if he ever puts Jane in charge, since she had experience years ago in a movie titled Barbarella. The best technology rarely dominates, but sex always sells. You need guys smarter than I to forecast winners. Better yet, employ clairvoyants. All I can hope for is to hang around as long as I can and be surprised as it unfolds. Best of luck. Sam
