Linda, you asked - and I paraphrase somewhat- what kind of people Iomega expects to hire for the new plant if the average wage is $8/hr.

The answer is simple: Utahns. While I haven't seen specifics of the job offerings, I think that many of these position will be part-time and 2nd (yeah, and even third) jobs for some employees. While the cost of living IMHO is not that low here, the wages are.

I won't go into the socio-political reasons why I think wages are low in this area. However, I am a little surprised though that the wage is in fact that low, considering the relatively low unemployment rate here.
