If you don't think that the FTC will look for the MSFT connection

then you don't understand what discovery is. If the FTC asks for documents concerning Intel's decision to go with an embedded processor id, they are going to discover the MSFT connection.

I think its called restraint of trade.

I've seen the advts and they are deceptive. They are portraying the PIII as a way for an end user to get involved in e-commerce. There is no mention of the id or of how it will be used to keep track of the user.

The whole processor id idea is quite intellectually deficient from the point of view of e-commerce. But then again that's Intel. Giving the user not the vendor of products control over a digital id is the only way that makes sense. For that approach you have to try a company that knows something about software --- like Novell.
