Rocketman, don't rely on the online tax records. I haven't done my taxes for '98 yet, but for '97, the online info agreed with neither my own records or with their statements. Never had an error on the statements and I'd bet there's a disclaimer somewhere about the online tax records - that the records customers should rely upon are written trade confirmations, statements and 1099.

BTW, I think the online tax records are based, at least in part, on the online portfolio summary which it is possible for you to edit. For example, if you deposit securities into your account, E*Trade has no way of knowing your cost basis unless you enter the information online. That cost basis, input by you, will be reflected on the tax records page when you sell that security. If they let you edit it, you can't really expect them to stand behind its accuracy.
