GeoCities to Offer Users RealNetworks' Internet Video Software
Seattle, Feb. 28 (Bloomberg) -- GeoCities, a provider of free World Wide Web pages, said it would provide its members with RealNetworks Inc. software for posting video on the Internet.

Terms weren't disclosed. GeoCities will also use RealNetworks' software for hosting the video that its members post to the Internet.

For RealNetworks, whose software is already popular among media companies and Web publishers, the agreement represents its first push into the mass consumer market. The company hopes to appeal to the range of GeoCities users, including individuals and small businesses such as restaurants and real estate agents.

The pact allows GeoCities to distinguish itself from rivals such as theglobe.com Inc. GeoCities will offer to host its members' videos for free for a 30-day trial period, and then may begin charging a fee.

RealNetworks plans to simplify its software for putting video on the Internet for GeoCities' users.
