You did not address the specific point, that to derive satisfaction from a helpful act depends upon caring for the other person, and therefore is different. You also ignored my criticism of altruism. You ignored my earlier point about "noble death". You also ignored my qualification that selfishness is an inordinate concern with one's self- interested, which is why it is pejorative, and why the Webster's definition is inadequate. You have ignored the issue of man being by nature a social animal, and the point that philosophically, our worth cannot supercede that of every other being, but that respect for ourselves dictates respect for others. By the way, in the cynical example you give in this post, do you really mean to say that you care for your children solely in order to reap a benefit down the line?
Anyway, I hope you will at least mull over these matters some.
