Naval Surface Warfare Center Chooses Livelink to Manage Global Extranet
Government Facilities to Deploy Livelink to Shorten Government Processes, Reducing Cycle Times From 2 Years to 2 Months
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999-- Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX - news; TSE:OTC - news), the worldwide leader of Web-based collaborative knowledge management application software, today announced that the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, California, is deploying Livelink to manage their extranet. For the past year, this government facility has used Livelink to link together facilities, enabling the sharing of tens of thousands of documents with customers, partners, suppliers and employees.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center uses Livelink to develop, store, and support Missile Systems' contracts, contract deliverables, technical documents and engineering drawings. Before Livelink, this process was paper-based and time-consuming, involving the mailing of documents to each facility numerous times. Now, with the deployment of their Livelink-based global extranet, the Naval Surface Warfare Center has empowered its employees to collaborate with government partners and contractors in a fast and efficient Web-based environment.
''With Livelink's Enterprise Libraries and Project work spaces, each user knows that they can access the 'latest and greatest' version of a document even though system users are collaborating with different
facilities around the world,'' said Greg Tomczyk, Systems Manager at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. ''Livelink's secure, collaborative extranet capabilities have enabled users to work together and increase
productivity. In some specific cases, it has shortened a costly and reoccurring government process from two years to two months.''
''Another huge benefit the customers have realized with Livelink is cost avoidance,'' added Tomczyk. ''Before Livelink, government employees and contractors from these many facilities would meet once a
month in selected locations. Now, knowledge sharing and project collaboration is happening daily and most project managers only need to meet face to face a few times a year, saving thousands of dollars in yearly travel costs and time.''
''The Naval Surface Warfare Center is an excellent example of the benefits that Livelink's extranet solution brings to a global organization,'' said Dan Latendre, Vice President of Product Marketing, Open Text Corporation. ''By providing a secure, Web-based collaborative environment, Livelink enables thousands of people to share knowledge and work together, regardless of geographic location. This type of collaboration has been proven to increase productivity and reduce costs for many of our Global 2000 companies.''
