Corel Ships WordPerfect 8 For Linux
Corel Corp. has started shipping WordPerfect 8 for Linux.
The personal edition is going through both retail and reseller channels for a street price of $49.95 while the server edition is $495, a Corel spokeswoman said.
Since offering a free 90 day trial of the word processing software on the Web in December, Corel has sold about 45,000 copies of the personal edition out of about 600,000 downloads, said company officials.
"When we first set up the registration process we had no idea what type of response we would receive from the Linux community," said Corel President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Cowpland in a prepared statement."
