Patricia Ireland also stated on Meet the Press Sunday:

Character does matter to the people of this country, but they also are not going to buy it from a Bob Barr, who's been married three times and lied under oath.

I understand Mr. Barr has in fact been married 3 times, but he never lied under oath. He invoked a privilege under Georgia law not to testify about certain aspects of his divorce proceedings.

While I certainly don't condone Mr. Barr's behavior, I find it deplorable that Ms. Ireland has LIED on national television about somebody who has no contemporaneous ability to defend himself.

I've e-mailed NOW for a comment and perhaps a clarification, but I'm not expecting anything soon.
