No, Tibco would not be a competitor. Those folks specialize in providing the raw infrastructure for BUILDING high-end messaging FRAMEWORKS. They also sell financial apps built on their own messaging tech. Tibco specializes in high-end, high-traffic, messaging... they've sold their products to the likes of NASDAQ to facilitate massively high throughput real-time messaging.
Perceptronics provides an already built framework, SPECIFIC TO REAL-TIME COLLABORATIVE 3D, that provides benefits in addition to raw messaging (synchronization, compression, etc.). While the transparent handling of low-level middleware functions are extremely beneficial, it is the framework that provides huge benefit. IC3D allows game developers to simply concentrate on the UI rather than dealing with writing code to handle all low-level functionality.
Again, this is my initial take based on viewing their architectural diagrams, and it is very surface oriented. But, the point I was hoping to make was this: it appears that IC3D will do for real-time collaborative 3D what Tibco did for massively high-end messaging and more (read specific framework).
