UPC say will bid for Ireland's Cablelink
AMSTERDAM, March 1 (Reuters) - Dutch-based cable television operator United Pan-European Communications NV (UPC) said on Monday it intends to bid for Irish state cable operator Cablelink.
"There is a tender process for Cablelink and UPC will take part in it. That's all we can say for now," a spokeswoman at the company told Reuters.

Cablelink, Ireland's largest cable provider, is 75 percent- owned by state telephone company Telecom Eireann and 25 percent owned by national broadcaster RTE.

UPC will hold a news conference in Dublin on Thursday to announce formally its intention to bid for the franchise.

UPC floated in Amsterdam and on the Nasdaq in February. As well as cable TV, it has Internet and telephony interests. United International Holdings holds a majority stake of UPC.
