The National Post reports in its Saturday edition that the Toronto Stock
Exchange will not announce the changes to the new TSE 100 index, which are
effective before the market opens on Friday, March 19, until the market
closes on Monday. But Scotia Capital Markets has checked the rankings as of
the close Thursday and come up with those likely to be in and those set for
the drop. Inclusion in the 100 is a plus because the stocks automatically
are bought for the portfolios that mimic the index and for the 100 index
participation units (HIPS). Those set for 100 status are Rogers
Communications Inc. Class B shares, Great-West Lifeco Inc., CGI Group Inc.,
QLT PhotoTherapeutics Inc., Le Groupe Videotron Ltd., CanWest Global
Communications Corp., Onex Corp., and BC Gas Inc. Most likely on the way
out of the 100 are Air Canada, Torstar Corp., Methanex Corp., Trimark
Financial Corp., Finning International Inc., ATS Automation Tooling Systems
Inc., Crestar Energy Inc. and Ranger Oil Ltd. Those falling out if this
charmed circled will generally see demand for their shares reduced.
