I, too, have the OED. It is my reference when challenged at Scrabble, which can be a savage ploy for the unsuspecting.

It is my personal belief that it is a "good thing" to keep alive as many of the old usages as possible. They add texture and depth to our exchanges.

And drive the rest of the world crazy, but this is a different kick. BTW, I am all too aware of the grammatical ouch of the previous sentence. I use the form for rhetorical purposes.
