A Dutch scientist I know that works for Novo has the opinion that Roundup is not wanted in Europe since the people (including Esper himself) are worried about the ground water containing a breakdown product of Roundup. This is a man whose company makes genetically engineered human insulin, and is very interested in other molecular biological approaches to medicine. So, in part the resistance to the genetic engineering revolution is due to issues like these, even though there is much admiration and use of genetic engineering.
