Not sure if they checked the money. I guess if they were goldbugs they would have! Anyway, counterfeit or not, it is a salutary exercise to see how little one's life is worth! Mine was worth about R700 = just over $100 US! Point I'm making is that there are different scales of value --- eg. when dying of thirst in the desert one would swap ALL one's material possessions just for a drink of water! When you have a gun at your head, a knife at your throat, and your hands are tied with wire behind your back, you will give whatever you are asked for. That's why I find it strange that people keep extolling the value of gold under disaster circumstances. Those who do this have clearly not experienced any disaster! Except, possibly, their own loss of net worth as result of owning gold !
