Bob, the good news may only be short term in nature. Let me toss out my opinion for discussion. In the short term, getting milestone payments is good but let's remember that Targretin use for breast cancer is suppose to be the drug that Lgnd depends on for survival. In the AHP deal, Lgnd is helping a future competitor develop a drug that will go head to head or might even be better than Targretin in treating breast cancer. Is Lgnd winning one battle by getting milestone payments now only to lose the war five years from now? And yes I do realize that if the AHP drug sells well, that Lgnd still gets a 3 or 6% royalty.
