Actually, Maurice, the product is WD-40. WD stands for Water Displacement. The guy that invented it did so for the Atlas Rocket program back in the cold war days of the 1950's. The Rockets are made from Stainless Steel sheets. They required a coating to prevent moisture from corroding the vehicle. At that time the rockets were being made to sit in missile silo's for a very long time and needed some protection. They guy that invented the formula, never patented it. And it turned to his advantage since no one has been able to duplicate it and therefore does not have any real competition for his market niche. We still use WD-40 today for coating the Atlas vehicle, now being built in San Diego, CA & Denver, CO.
