It's funny that the terminology has been reversed. When you read their proper definitions, it is clear that selfishness is far less a negative than self-interest. Perhaps better defining than self-interest is self-centered.
Either way, if you consider self-interest to be the "less" negative of the two, just flip them in all my posts. The net effect is the same.
