El: You're dealing with egos on the street more than anything else here. If you read today's WSJ piece carefully, clearly there's a stick-it-to-em mentality in operation. Stick that pig, you might say. (Remember Niles, secure in his views and in his station, said CPQ remarks were no big deal -- precisely the opposite of Kumar's vaunted, touted and published nationally "big deal".) Ok, CPQ may be less than nimble in the pr department and management may be manipulative and at times dumb. So what? You can count on your fingers the number of these corporate porkers who don't fit that description. In fact, with every single tech company I own that's taken a hit in the last couple of years -- from SAP to ORCL to CYMI, the same tune is played out on the threads. The proof will come when quarterly earnings are released and CPQ either beats, meets or misses. My bet is NOT on the latter and I think CPQ's public statements support that view. Hence I believe an immense bargain has been tossed out the door onto the street. I say, pick that piglet up and bring her home for supper. (Of course, this could be a prevaricating pig, in which case, I say, throw the chop in the dustbin and move on.) M2 |
