I see now that I didn't read the question clearly - it was a question about a question This opens a whole new can of worms. Either the liar or the honest fellow can now give a non-answer which technically stays within bounds.
"What would you say if I asked if this
was the door to freedom."
All he'd have to say is "The truth, my man, the truth", and you'd be out your one question and have zero information.
It seems vital to ask a direct, unambiguous question to avoid this way out of giving anny information - correct or otherwise. To me this remains one equation with two variables, and these have no single solution.
