Mr. DiLorenzo -
USRX was the modem leader in 93, 94 95, 96. Yes. They had about 30% of the end user modem market. Pretty big portion considering all the competition. However the other 70% of the modem makers (including computer OEMS) use Rockwell chipsets in their modems. (By the way, Rockwell chipsets ARE modems. Make a board with a voltage regulator, transformer, phone jack and glue on a Rockwell modem chip and you have a modem. All the hard work has been done already. Even an idiot can make a modem using a Rockwell modem chip.)
Here's an analogy you might understand that explains Rockwell's modem business philosophy. If I make car radios will I sell more by selling the radios at Circuit City, Best Buy, etc...or would I sell more by selling them to Ford, GM, and Chrysler and having them put them in their cars?
USRX is a good company, no question. But they will lose the 56k modem battle being waged now because of their own mistakes and Rockwell's dominant leadership in this market.
