david NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- First Albany Corp. on Tuesday lowered its
investment ratings on stocks of seven networking companies, citing the
recent disappointing third-quarter outlook from 3Com Corp.
In a research note, analyst Matt Barzowskas said 3Com's outlook
demonstrated that the group was experiencing a slowdown in near-term
growth. First Albany said the networking stocks will be under pressure
as investors try to reassess the situation.
First Albany downgraded 3Com and six other stocks to "neutral" from
"buy." The other six are Cabletron Systems Inc., Cisco Systems Inc.,
Ascend Communications Inc., Shiva Corp., U.S. Robotics Corp. and Xircom
Inc.
The firm maintained its "neutral" rating on Bay Networks Inc.
A source at the firm noted that while the firm downgraded Xircom's
fundamental rating, it maintained its quantitative rating of "portfolio
buy" on the stock.
