Linda, looks like Ricky's got you on this one, to wit:
"Reports are coming in on Usenet that it is a very fast drive [1 report], and people are very happy with their purchase [2 reports, but one report from someone waiting reslution of an unnamed problem]. Castlewood Customer service is reported to be extremely courteous, fast...and FREE [one report]."
So, at least 3 people have purchased the drive, 2 of which (67%) are happy with it. This to me is not a unanimous hands-down show of support. Of course, in order for a 1% problem rate to show up (I think this number was bandied around about the Zip drive, but I don't know just how close to 1% the actual problem rate was) about 100 would have to buy the drive. At the current rate of purchases as reported on USENET, this will take, oh, about 6 months, during which time, Ricky might be able to proudly boast that the Orb is "problem-free." That is, unless there is a <gasp> HIGHER rate of problems than 1% (like that other famous Iomega killer, the HiFD)!
"The USB and Firewire Orbs will be available "Second Quarter 1999." Let's see, the original Orb was, to make it a round number 1 year late? I don't remember exactly. That means that the USB and Firewire models will get here just about July, 2000. The parallel port and SCSI Orbs ought to be available in March, 2000, using the same extrapolations.
