LOL Paul, you would ask me that. I am just starting to understand what XML is all about. I asked Scott that very same question about a month ago. I also downloaded the IE5 beta which is the only usable XML enbedded browsers I could find. The Netscape version is not ready yet from what I can see.

From what I understand of the basics of XML is that it has the ability to replace tags and more powerfully use variable replacement from data-sources (like NDS). Therefore, when you are in Digital-Me and you click on the NorthWest Airlines banner in your personal page, the XML code extracts the infromation needed to have you access the NorthWest Airlines login page and then processes the sequence of capturing the login event on the NWA web-page and auto-filling the customer-specific login information on your behalf.

I dont think this involves Java. This is a function of XML. That is why MSFT and others are excited about XML. NDS is simply acting as a highly secured data-store for your various Internet Personnas that you have built up at all the sites you use.

Beyond that Paul, I am not the person to ask how XML inner workings operate.
