ECG, thanks for posting that news. Maybe Don can give us something more specific but I don't know how to work out what this means for IDEC. I know nothing about the drug specifically although I know a bit about Topoisomerase I which is what this drug inhibits. I will be glad to post if anyone would care to know the mechanism. My initial impressions are:
Will need to know more about Pharmacia and Upjohn's data on 9-AC obviously. Doesn't seem that IDEC paid a very large price for this considering they have received ALL rights as well.
I believe this increases the IDEC pipeline to 6 potential therapies and feel that this is exciting.
Lack of active analyst coverage already cited by Brad may have resulted in the edge being taken of the stock's reaction to what looks to be good news granted that we lack the most basic info on 9-AC.
Appears to be an addition to what may be an already formidable future Lymphoma franchise for IDEC. It certainly seems to be a timely and appropriate addition to the pipeline. IDEC no doubt has already the infrastructure in place to evaluate this therapy considering they have just concluded the trial activity recently of another Lymphoma therapy.
Again, we are lacking some basic info here but my gut reaction is that not only did IDEC get something on the cheap here on the surface but, they will save substantially becuase of the fit this project will have with respect to infrastructure and experience already in place.
My initial reaction is excitement.
