Brian & Fred -

USRX had predicted that a good portion of their 1997 revenues would come from their 56k x2 technology modems. They had predicted they would be first to market by 6 to 9 months over any competitors. That would end up giving them a good chunk of the market they did not have. They did not think Rockwell could catch up as fast as they did. Now it looks like Rockwell will hit market at the same time as (if not a little ahead of) USRX.

Now that the race is neck and neck no one will be the big loser except USRX which had placed a big portion of their 97 revenues on x2 which will not materialize. Analysts estimated the market for 56k modems to be about 1 billion. This would have increased USRX's revenues by 33% for this year (if they got the whole thing). Now they will probably end up with about 30% like they always have which increases revenues 10%.

Yes, USRX has sold many 56k CAPABLE modems, but they have not proven capable of anything yet. Also, Rockwell supplies 70% of the ISP's modems as well (thru Cisco, Ascend, etc). USRX may have a presence with 70% of the ISP's, but it is a smaller 30% presence once again just like the client modem side.
