Over on Yahoo, all the shorters have been talking about the effect of MSFT competing with OMKT.

First of all, its unclear to me why anyone shorts a net stock. Why don't they short MSFT ($405B market cap/24X sales). How about Dell? Those seem to be a lot better shorts to me.

Well, getting back to the competition. Let me point out several things that MSFT likes doing.

1) The preannounce vaporware and deliver it years later, if ever. Anybody ever seen Active Directory? NT 5.0/Win 2000 - I heard its DOA.

2) They deliver solutions that don't scale. Windows NT.

3) It doesn't work when delivered. Everything.

4) They announce coalitions when they can't buy you outright - Transpoint is getting clobbered by CKFR.

5) They are never able to deliver a competive product - money vs intuit.

6) They can be clobbered in head to head competition - MSN.com v AOL

And, oh yeah, they are getting their tails kicked by the DOJ. They only product besides office that is successful at all, they had to give away, and used their os leverage to ensure that no OEM or ISP would use netscape. THEY MAY NOT EVEN EXIST in 2 YEARs because of hte lawsuit.

AM I worried about MSFT? Not a chance. Not looking for a competitve product before early 01.

OMKT has the right product at the right time. The market will come around.
