William Schaff is off center on this remarks about Xerox. EDS is sueing Xerox not the other way around. But its stupid policy either way and tells me that the CEO to CEO communication either did not exist or was insufficient for such a large customer. Richard Brown used the situation to salt away $200 million for a rainy day fund because he was in a unique position of not being on the bridge during the last quarter. But the EDS/MCI deal is big big in that it positions this team against a strong AT&T/IBM team. Having two major credible bidders will cause CEOs to outsource their IT and communications functions knowing full well that they will get a good deal and a good partner. The big consulting houses will salivate over the consultant and procurement management fees that can be had by assisting clients to outsource their functions. They will be pushing the heavy carpet offices to take action while the options are good. I like EDS in the long run because of the hardware independence and the total number of people. This is where the Systemhouse deal helps out. It supplies another 10,000 heads to run big deals.
