Re: Templeton Interview and Java
Thread, I read an interview with Templeton in Network World but do not think it's online. Basically he made six points:
1. Citrix is going to focus efforts this year on current Terminal Server Edition and Windows 2000 where terminal services will be part of the core operating system. Anyone know how Citrix's current contract with Microsoft relates to Windows 2000?
2. Citrix, although valued like an Internet company(author's comment), Templeton says it is not. Templeton believes investors value CTXS highly because server based computing is a HUGE market.
3. There is a risk of competing against Microsoft, but Templeton feels if Citrix can drive more operating system sales for MSFT, then Citrix is probably safe.
4. Templeton wants to drive sales higher in the enterprise market with large customers and higher profits.
5. Templeton says handheld devices are boring (and he is right IMHO), but once you load ICA on them, suddenly they are exciting because you have you a hand held being able to access enterprise applications.
6. He thinks pushing Java as a operating system is purely political and not feasible. But he said Citrix has to recognize it and he lost me on the rest of his comment. IMHO Java is not good for CTXS. To me they compete, both trying to obtain somewhat similar objectives. Here is his last comment verbatim. Maybe someone else can figure it out:
"On the other hand, it's totally clear to me that Java is going to be a real force in application software development. It's an easier way to create three tier systems with presentation, business logic and back-end file or data servers. When you move application logic on to a server, you are doing server based computing."
Personally I think he is saying Java is competition for Citrix. But I tried to make this point before, but most disagreed with me. MikeM(From Florida) |
