texas dude,

reading your posts prompted me to contact my dentist ,with whom i discuss software companies.he , in turn ,sent me a document which a periodontist friend of his gives to his patients.summary below(sorry i do not have a scanner):

advantages of atridox:placed fairly easily;biodegradable,no follow-up visits required;molds to the pocket, thus can be used in furcations and circumstantial defects

limitations:expensive,so isn't economical for less than 4 sites.hardens rapidly and may stick to needle

research background:average of 1.3 mm reduction in pocket depth & average of .8 mm increase in clinical attachment.from a clinical standpoint, the average results appear to be only marginally significant.

when to use:1.in areas with multiple furcations or circumferential problems which do not respond to traditional treatment
2.only in pockets with mild periodontal probing depths,5-7 mm.at greater depths, atridox is unlikely to reach base of pocket.
3.if a number of unresponsive or recurrent pockets in an area
4.if doesn't improve after 2 doses,try something else

what to tell patients:it's one type of treatment;it's likely that other forms of treatment may be needed in the future

hope this info is useful to you.
