I agree, anywhere MS can reach users for a guaranteed 3 hours per day should be very valuable property.
I personally only user MSWord about one hour a week (I use Keyview to read documents) and when I can operate my Toshiba Libretto 100CT without Windows95/98, I will be happier--three crashes in 4 months. Netscape for the Browser.
I think the phone/2 way pager footprint is the target, hence UPlanet and Symbian's current threat to MS, Palm VII is working very hard and MS, well not high in my books, yet.
I don't know about AutoPC, but if someone can provide product features to the phone with an EASY UI (VUI/GUI--whatever works, combination ok) then I buy.
I agree with your entire document, and if you are looking for 'solutions' I think listing those you might find interesting is a simple and effective way of stimulating conversation, though I am not sure this is the best forum, ask the other members.
IMHO, VUI adds value to the components of the solution set, but does not define the value of each solution. There is a lot of work that is in the 'boring' domain of regular systems development work, with VUI used to accept commands, deliver information/responses.
The solutions providers will come from companies geared towards specific verticals/communities and provide complimentary pieces to providers such as GMGC--assuming they utilize a standard, which they will--both VUI and middleware access.
Good luck. |
