DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1999--
Second Largest County in the Nation, Fastest Growing County in
Colorado, Fastest Growing City in the United States Choose J.D.
Edwards Software
Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) today announced that its solutions for government have been selected by Cook County, Ill., the second largest U.S. county, and Douglas County, Colo., the fastest growing U.S. county.
J.D. Edwards solutions were also recently implemented on time and on budget at the City of Orlando, Fla., the fastest growing U.S. city, according to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics. Customers cite the software's ease of implementation and flexibility to change and grow with their organizations as leading reasons for their selection of J.D. Edwards.
Providing Internet-enabled applications and an integrated workflow engine, J.D. Edwards' government solution automates processes to better manage assets and the flow of resources, including employees and facilities, while concurrently serving constituents.
"As the general population grows, so does its need and demand for governmental services. It's, therefore, absolutely critical that cities and counties be able to accommodate this growth with their information technology systems," said Rishi Sood, principal analyst for Dataquest.
"J.D. Edwards has clearly distinguished itself in the market by providing governments with a technology solution that enables them to anticipate government business changes, respond to the community, develop new methods of serving constituents, and more efficiently utilize taxpayers' money."
The J.D. Edwards solution for enabling governments to manage growing populations and streamline productivity includes the following: -0- *T

Edwards' most recent addition to its list of largest counties and cities served is Cook County, the second largest county in the nation, which is home to the City of Chicago and over 5.1 million citizens. Other large counties currently using J.D. Edwards include Wayne County, Mich., the largest county in the state and home to the City of Detroit; and Lee County, Fla., home to the City of Fort Meyers.
"Like many private corporations, the County is being asked to do more with fewer resources. In order to make our employees more productive, automation was necessary. Also, constituents are demanding more accountability and a customer service focus or orientation to the services that we provide. Again, this is possible through automation and putting information on employees' desktops. We believe that OneWorld will help us accomplish this," said Tom Glaser CFO for Cook County.
The City of Orlando, Fla., which has approximately 176,000 citizens and is the home of Walt Disney World, anticipates growing more than 25 percent over the next 13 years. "Given our rapid growth, we wanted a flexible system that could meet our needs today as well as in the future," said Rob Garner, controller for the City of Orlando.
"OneWorld's flexibility was a key factor and its easy 'touch and feel' movement between and within screens clinched our decision. We think our people will be very comfortable using the J.D. Edwards software, and training new employees will be easier than with our previous system."
Other rapidly growing communities benefiting from the J.D. Edwards solution include Douglas County, Colo., the fastest growing county in the nation; the City of Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City, which has experienced a population increase of more than 30 percent in the last 10 years; the City of Fort Collins, Colo.; and the City of Santa Monica, Calif.
"J.D. Edwards' depth and flexibility have given users the ability to track and review financial information to any level of detail needed to manage their business," said Kristy Cannon, director of finance, budget and administration for the City of Overland Park, Kan. "The software has greatly enhanced the city's operations and its ability to manage ongoing trends by providing substantial gains in its financial processes, resource allocation and employee morale."
