All good points. Politicians would claim (cynically) that votes are to politics what ownership is to business. That, of course, is utter BS. Business acts in a manner that helps it derive benefits. A politician only has to talk "the talk".

I do believe neutrality is preferable. Because it is impossible to transmit or force value judgements on people without infringing their natural rights. For example, prostitution. Here is an act in which 2 consenting adults engage in a mutually "beneficial" manner in a private setting (usually). Why should the gov't make this illegal? Wouldn't it pay (it does, actually, if you look at areas where it IS legal) to legalize and tax it? Removes a good portion of the traffic flowing through our courts and increases the overall revenue stream (reduced costs, increased revenues...what a concept). However, to do that would require a gov't being "value neutral".
