Hi EKS...About Calpers

I have great reservations about this thing with Calpers, and that is why I didn't post anything about it. However, I sent to Joe a private note about what I feel about this thing. In order to have a balance of opposing views and opinions on this board, I elected to post my private note to Joe for anyone's comments. Here it is:

Hi Joe...

It seems I am missing something here. My understanding is Calpers had a meeting with Novell last fall. We don't know what was said by both sides in this meeting. I know that Calpers wants to push the stock price up but we also don't know what the company said. Maybe it was reasonable, and maybe not. My whole point is, I cann't jump allover Marengi and the BOD without knowing their plan.

Clearly, the performance of the stock since I initially bought it in the Fall of 95 has been crummy. But from what I know now, they are in a much better shape than any other time since then. Q4 results were good, and you got info that they did well in Q1. If the latter is true, then they are in a turn-around situation and this will be reflected soon in the price of the stock. My question is: Why do we want to rock the boat at this time?. The communication with the media would surely result in negative articles which wouldn't help. IMO, we should have waited till Q1 results are announced.

Another point which I don't understand is that you called for the oust of Marengi in your template, by the way it is very well written. I didn't read or hear anything bad about him. He seems to be of the same mold as Ballmar (enforcer) which I do believe they badly need. Most likely he doesn't have the vision, but his execution is good. That is why we need a visionary CEO, but we need Marengi to get things done.

You know that I appreciate your opinions and efforts greatly, but you might know more than what I know and that is why I am confused. I would be more than happy to support this effort with my substantial position in Novell but I have to understand the situation clearly. The purpose of this note is to kindly ask you to enlighten me about
the situation and where I am misguided.

I will be away for the the rest of the week, and will be back by Sunday (02/16).

Regards

Salah
