Don't know much history, eh TP? Most societies were polytheistic. Most societies were monarchical. In fact, in many instances, the monarch came to be regarded as divine, as in Pharaonic Egypt, among the Incas, in Japan, and even for a time among the Romans. Occasionally, there was a foray into democracy, as in Athens, but the most lasting democratic, representative institutions have been developed in Christian societies. Sectarianism may indeed have helped things along, but the sects all agreed on monotheism.
