Jim,
Ricochet service is now becoming available in some parts of NYC, and at Newark Airport.
I'm surprised the stock price didn't go up more with yesterday's announcement:
LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1999--Metricom, Inc. (Nasdaq:MCOM), announced it has begun active deployment of the Ricochet wireless Internet service in the New York City area.
Ricochet service will cover New York's City Hall, the Financial District, Times Square, the Theater District and parts of the Brooklyn Metrotech area. In addition, availability of Ricochet network in these areas will be used to better acquaint the Wall Street investment community and potential subscribers with the benefits of Ricochet technology.
Concurrent with the deployment of Ricochet service in New York City, Metricom, Inc. announced today that it will be providing Ricochet service at New York's Newark airport covering the terminal areas of American, United, and Delta Airlines.
Lee Gopadze, vice president, Right of Way & Field Operations stated, "The availability of service at Newark airport now gives Ricochet coverage at both Newark and LaGuardia Airports. Metricom plans to seek Ricochet coverage at New York's JFK airport in the future." I've been using Ricochet for nearly a year now and it's great especially when traveling.
