If the arbs are short mattel and long tlc, and they have enormous firepower, they can short mattel during the 20 day period and buy more tlc and try to prevent the stock from going above $27.50.

There are limits to this strategy and if warren buffet and crew come in willing to buy several million shares during the period it could be risky.

Since i'm not an arb, i don't know if this is a likely scenario, but it is a possible one.

Today's restructuring announcement will likely be thought of as an expected step. It will be interesting to see what firepower Jill brings out during the roadshow.
