The later detail surrounding the "slow merger" actually lends credibility. Specifically, the part about possible changes to DuPont's chemical assets makes this story quite reasonable.

Monsanto's bioag products are starting to get positive attention. Sure, they are killing chemical competitors overnight. But, in this process they also introduce economic efficiencies...large relative improvements are noteworthy, as least to those who understand economics in the western sense.

To put this in contemporary Wall Street terms: Monsanto is in effect introducing "Dell-like attributes" to a number of micro-economies. And as we know, everyone wants to be like Dell. So you are right, particularly as time goes on, Monsanto is a "hot item"...
